About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager, Women & Children’s Health Unit or designate, the Secretary I provides non-clinical, clerical support and reception duties within a team environment. Working directly with the Midwives, Practitioners and other on-site healthcare, the Secretary I facilitates and coordinates the administrative operation of the Midwifery Program based at Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital in Lunenburg. The Secretary I exhibits sound judgment and initiative, while supporting the Mission, Vision and Strategic Direction of the Community Midwife Program and Nova Scotia Health.
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
- Grade XII required
- Graduate of a recognized Office Administrative Program required
- Successful completion of a Medical Terminology course required
- One year of recent office administration experience
- Recent experience in a health care provider environment
- Knowledge of Midwifery and primary health care concepts would be considered an asset
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Access, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, and the ability to effectively use search engines
- Excellent organizational, follow-through and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks while working under pressure
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral), demonstrating a cooperative attitude and a high degree of tact, judgment and confidentiality.
- Ability to demonstrate initiative, sound judgment and remain calm in stressful situations
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

- Casual opportunity; no guaranteed hours
Compensation and Incentives
$22.97 – $24.97 hourly
